In possible response to President Trumps increasing calls for sanctions against North Korea , China has banned all tourism to the country just ahead of Trumps scheduled first visit to China. This maybe a show of force on China's part, aimed at better keeping the North Koreans in line and showing the true extent of their displeasure at the Norths escalating missile launches. Once one of North Korea's strongest allies this tourism ban could have a major effect on the North Korean economy, which is already heavily sanctioned. Via Reuters, a South Korean think tank called the Korean Maritime Institute estimates that tourism brings in close to 44 million dollars a year to the North Korean economy, 80 percent of those tourists are Chinese. This sanction could therefore deal a heavy blow to the North Koreans and Kim Jung Un's regime.
